From the 1st of June 2016, lead is restricted in consumer products supplied to the public in the EU under Entry 63 of Annex XVII of REACH. The total content limit of lead of 0.05% is applied to articles and accessible parts that can be mouthed by children.
On the 25th of May 2015, ECHA published a guideline on the scope of the Entry 63 (paragraphs 7 to 10) of Annex XVII to REACH on lead.
Products supplied to the general public within the scope of lead restriction including clothing, footwear, sports and leisure items, accessories, stationery items, interior decoration items, childcare products, and certain outdoor products. If the product can be mouthed by children, the lead content in accessible component can not be equal or greater than 0.05%, unless the rate of lead release is less than 0.05 ug/m2/h.
